JCI Davao proudly celebrates Dr. Suelto on earning his Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science from the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)—a remarkable achievement that reflects years of dedication to environmental advocacy, scientific research, and servant leadership.

His academic journey culminated not only in earning the highest academic degree in his field but also in receiving the Outstanding Leadership Award and the Research Productivity Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to both leadership and research.

For those who know Dr. Suelto, however, this accomplishment is not the beginning of his story. It is the latest chapter in a journey defined by service, innovation, and an unwavering passion for environmental stewardship.

A Journey Rooted in Service and Environmental Stewardship

Dr. Suelto’s journey within JCI Davao has consistently reflected his belief that meaningful leadership begins with serving others and protecting the environment for future generations.

His environmental advocacy dates back to 2021, when he chaired an international collaboration between JCI Davao and JCI Sapporo, Japan. The project facilitated the turnover of solar flashlights, bags, and raincoats to the Rain Forest Guards of the Philippine Eagle Foundation in support of the conservation and release of the critically endangered Philippine Eagle.

The initiative demonstrated how international partnerships can strengthen local conservation efforts while recognizing the vital role of forest guards who dedicate their lives to protecting one of the country’s greatest natural treasures.

In 2022, Dr. Suelto continued his environmental advocacy by chairing Project Grab Crab, an initiative focused on ecosystem conservation and environmental awareness. The project’s impact extended well beyond its implementation, and he has since continued serving as one of its advisers, helping ensure that its mission continues to benefit future generations.

That same year, his passion, initiative, and dedication to service earned him the distinction of being named JCI Davao’s Most Outstanding New Member of 2022, recognizing the remarkable contributions he made during his first year in the organization.

Driven by the same commitment to sustainability, he also spearheaded Project Canopy: Rebuilding Lives through Reforestation, reinforcing the belief that restoring forests and empowering communities go hand in hand. In 2024, he further expanded his environmental leadership by chairing PawiCamp, an educational initiative that immersed participants in environmental conservation, biodiversity awareness, and responsible stewardship of natural resources. Together with his work on Project Grab Crab and Project Canopy, PawiCamp reflected his belief that protecting the environment begins by educating and empowering people to become active stewards of nature. Through these initiatives, Dr. Suelto demonstrated that environmental leadership is not limited to advocacy—it requires action, collaboration, education, and long-term commitment.

Where Science Meets Service

Dr. Suelto has consistently shown that scientific knowledge becomes most valuable when it is translated into meaningful action.

In 2025, he chaired Project ECOTONE, one of JCI Davao’s flagship environmental initiatives. Under his leadership, the project earned recognition from the Mindanao level to the national and global stage, showcasing how innovative environmental programs can create sustainable positive change.

His journey perfectly embodies JCI’s philosophy of active citizenship—identifying community needs, mobilizing people, and developing sustainable solutions that improve lives.

A Passion for Environmental Advocacy

Behind every academic achievement lies a deeper purpose.

For Dr. Suelto, pursuing a doctorate was inspired by his passion for environmental advocacy. His commitment to advancing environmental science reflects a desire to produce meaningful research that supports sustainable development, strengthens communities, and equips future generations to address environmental challenges with innovative solutions.

His academic journey demonstrates that learning is a lifelong pursuit. Rather than viewing education as a destination, he embraced it as a responsibility—one that enables him to serve communities more effectively and contribute to the growing body of knowledge that shapes environmental policy and conservation efforts.

By combining science with service, Dr. Suelto exemplifies how professionals can become catalysts for meaningful and lasting change.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Leaders

Dr. Suelto’s journey illustrates that leadership is built one act of service at a time.

His progression—from being recognized as Most Outstanding New Member in 2021, to receiving Most Outstanding Project Chairman in 2025, and now earning a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science—is a testament to what can be achieved when leadership, service, and lifelong learning are pursued with purpose.

His story serves as an inspiration to every JCI member, reminding us that personal excellence and community service are not separate pursuits but complementary paths toward creating sustainable positive change.
