What is Project Malaya?

Project Malaya—“Malaya” meaning freedom in Tagalog—is JCI Davao’s comprehensive conservation initiative focused on preserving the critically endangered Philippine Eagle, a national symbol.

Launched during Philippine Eagle Week, the project began with a highly visible kickoff event on June 4, 2024, held at the Philippine Eagle Center in Malagos. Featured students from across Davao, eagle flight demonstrations, and insights from experts, all designed to highlight the urgent need for habitat protection and conservation awareness.

Over the coming days, Project Malaya engaged community members, local schools, and partner organizations through educational workshops, advocacy campaigns, and hands-on restoration activities. These efforts culminated with a tree‑planting event at ALI Carbon Forest on June 9, 2024, followed by donations to Philippine Eagle Foundation forest guards and more live eagle interactions
