Davao City – In a strong display of environmental stewardship and community engagement, JCI Davao launched BakaOne: A Canopy of Opportunities for Greener Livelihood, under the nationwide JCI Philippines Think Green campaign. Held in Sitio Tambongon, Barangay Lasang, the project was a hands-on response to pressing ecological challenges, reinforcing JCI’s mission to foster youth leadership and sustainability in Mindanao.
On project day, volunteers joined forces to plant 150 mangrove seedlings across a 400-square-meter coastal area—an initiative aimed at restoring degraded shorelines, enhancing marine biodiversity, and supporting local livelihoods.
Youth Leadership Rooted in Action
At the heart of BakaOne is JCI’s belief in empowering the youth to lead change. Volunteers, including the dynamic MOSHG58 nominees, showcased the power of collaboration and youthful energy in addressing environmental issues. Their presence brought inspiration, fresh perspectives, and renewed commitment to sustainable development.
“When young leaders work hand-in-hand with communities, we don’t just plant trees—we plant hope, resilience, and a future that thrives,” said one of the project leads from JCI Davao.
Local Knowledge, Lasting Impact
The success of BakaOne was made possible through a meaningful partnership with the Tambongon Fisherfolks Association (TAMFIAS). Their deep-rooted knowledge of the coastal ecosystem and dedication to sustainable fishing practices were instrumental in guiding the initiative from planning to execution.
Together, JCI Davao and TAMFIAS demonstrated how community-based conservation is key to environmental resilience and economic sustainability.
