Davao City, April 2025 – Continuing its mission to nurture youth leadership in Mindanao, JCI Davao held the second day of its Ecotone initiative with a dynamic EcoTour aimed at strengthening environmental awareness and responsibility among young leaders.
In partnership with the University of Mindanao (UM), the Center of Green Nanotechnology Innovations for Environmental Solutions (CGNIES), the Institute of Biodiversity and Environment (IBE), and Aboitiz Power, the event brought together students from UM and Notre Dame of Marbel University for a hands-on learning experience that connected energy, ecology, and leadership.
A Journey Through Sustainability
Participants began their tour at Aboitiz Power – Therma South, Inc., where they received a guided walkthrough of the company’s energy generation processes, along with a briefing on its sustainability practices and environmental compliance measures. This up-close experience helped students understand how energy production can coexist with responsible environmental stewardship.
The tour continued at the Philippine Eagle Foundation, where students were immersed in wildlife conservation efforts and the critical role biodiversity plays in ecological balance. The foundation’s work served as a living example of how local actions can have a global impact.
“Sustainability is not just a subject—it’s a responsibility. Today’s youth are tomorrow’s decision-makers,” shared one of the project facilitators.
Youth Leadership for a Greener Mindanao
Ecotone Day 2 forms part of JCI Davao’s broader effort to integrate environmental education into leadership development. By exposing students to real-world applications of conservation and sustainable energy practices, the initiative empowers them to become informed advocates for climate action and ecological responsibility.
This event reinforced JCI Davao’s core belief that the future of Mindanao depends on equipping the youth not only with knowledge, but with the courage and capacity to lead sustainable change.
