Davao City – On April 12, 2024, JCI Davao proudly celebrated a major milestone in its environmental and livelihood advocacy with the Year 5 Implementation & Culmination Program of Grab Crab, held at the Tambongon Fisherfolks Association (TAMFIAS) in Barangay Lasang.

Led by Chairman Aljon Pasuhil, Vice Chairman Chaim Alonsabe, and Project President AJ Castro, along with past project leaders and JCI Davao members, the event highlighted five impactful years of community-based crab farming—a project that has grown into a symbol of sustainability and youth-led innovation in Mindanao.

Youth Leadership Fueling Sustainable Livelihoods

Grab Crab continues to exemplify how youth leadership can drive long-term change in vulnerable coastal communities. Through the collaborative efforts of JCI Davao and TAMFIAS, the project has empowered fisherfolk by introducing eco-friendly aquaculture practices that ensure both economic and environmental sustainability.

“We started with a vision to uplift lives through responsible resource management,” shared one of the project’s past chairmen. “Five years later, we are seeing tangible results—families with stable income and a community united by purpose.”

A Legacy of Resilience and Innovation

Beyond the harvest, Grab Crab has cultivated knowledge, skills, and leadership among both the youth and the local fisherfolk. It serves as a model for grassroots development, merging traditional livelihood with adaptive strategies that embrace technology and sustainability.

The Year 5 program reaffirmed JCI Davao’s commitment to building resilient, self-sufficient communities—proving that when guided by a shared mission, small initiatives can evolve into transformative legacies.

Building a Better Mindanao, One Catch at a Time

Grab Crab’s sustained success reflects JCI Davao’s broader vision of shaping young active citizens who lead impactful change across Mindanao. By investing in projects that blend environmental stewardship with economic empowerment, JCI Davao continues to leave a meaningful mark on both people and planet.
