Education for Indigenous Children Creates Lasting Opportunities
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Education for indigenous children remained at the heart of JCI Davao’s commitment to community development as it successfully conducted P.E.A.C.E. School on June 19, 2026, at M. Guloman Integrated School in Paquibato District, Davao City. Spearheaded by Project Chairman Allyn Jaspher Basit, the symposium gathered more than 200 Indigenous Peoples (IP) learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6 for a meaningful day of learning, empowerment, and inspiration.
P.E.A.C.E., which stands for Protection, Education, and Acceptance in Christ for Eternity, was developed to provide holistic learning opportunities for young Lumad learners by promoting children’s rights awareness, the value of education, and spiritual formation. Through engaging discussions and the distribution of learning materials, the project sought to encourage children to pursue education while equipping them with knowledge that will help them become confident and responsible members of their communities.
As one of JCI Davao’s continuing community development initiatives, P.E.A.C.E. School reflects the organization’s commitment to empowering underserved communities through sustainable educational programs. Readers may explore similar initiatives on JCI Davao’s Projects page.

Education for Indigenous Children Begins with Awareness and Empowerment
Quality education for indigenous children goes beyond classroom instruction. It involves creating safe learning environments where children understand their rights, appreciate the importance of education, and develop values that contribute to their personal growth and the well-being of their communities.
During the symposium, facilitators delivered age-appropriate discussions focusing on peace, personal protection, and the importance of education. These interactive sessions encouraged young learners to recognize their worth, understand the importance of respecting others, and appreciate the opportunities that education can provide.
The project’s spiritual formation component also reminded participants that compassion, kindness, integrity, and service are essential values that complement academic learning. By integrating practical life lessons with faith-based principles, P.E.A.C.E. School aimed to nurture both the minds and character of its young beneficiaries.
Education for Indigenous Children Through Learning Support
Beyond the educational talks, P.E.A.C.E. School also addressed one of the common challenges faced by many learners in remote communities—the lack of basic school supplies.
Each beneficiary received a learning kit containing notebooks, pencils, crayons, and envelopes to support their educational journey. These simple yet meaningful resources help reduce barriers to learning and encourage children to attend school with greater confidence and enthusiasm.
For many of the participants, receiving these learning materials represented more than school supplies. They symbolized encouragement from individuals and organizations who believe in their potential and are willing to invest in their future.
By combining rights awareness, educational discussions, spiritual formation, and learning assistance, education for indigenous children became more holistic and impactful through the P.E.A.C.E. School initiative.

Community Partnerships Strengthen Education for Indigenous Children
The success of P.E.A.C.E. School was made possible through the collaboration of organizations, community partners, and generous sponsors who share the vision of creating brighter futures for Indigenous learners.

Continuing the Mission of Education for Indigenous Children
Education has the power to transform lives, strengthen communities, and create opportunities that extend far beyond the classroom. For Indigenous learners living in geographically isolated communities, access to quality educational experiences and supportive learning environments can have a lasting impact on their future.
Through P.E.A.C.E. School, JCI Davao reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of background or circumstance, has access to opportunities that promote learning, personal development, and hope.
The enthusiasm shown by the young participants throughout the symposium reflected their eagerness to learn and their potential to become future leaders within their communities. By investing in today’s learners, the organization is helping cultivate tomorrow’s educators, professionals, community advocates, and changemakers.
P.E.A.C.E. School also reinforces JCI Davao’s broader mission of developing active citizens who create sustainable positive change through education, volunteerism, and community partnerships. Many of the organization’s community initiatives and stories of impact are featured in The Quill, JCI Davao’s official online publication.
